A clear look at what stays on your device and what is sent when you use online features.

Your library stays on your device by default
Documents you add, edits, and saved explanations are stored in your browser. Opening and reading a document does not upload it to our servers. You can use the local library without an account.
Read-aloud and AI use online services
When you use read-aloud, passages are sent through ReadAura’s server to Microsoft’s speech service to generate audio. As playback continues, additional passages may be sent ahead of time. When you ask Aura, the document title, selected text, nearby context, and conversation messages are sent through our server to NVIDIA to generate a response. These providers process requests under their own terms and privacy policies.
Sync and sharing are optional
If you use account sync, your documents, reading data, and saved explanations are uploaded to our server so they can be available on your other devices. If you publish a document or share a note with a reading club, other club members can access it. Account features also store your display name, membership, and authentication records.
Browser storage and service requests
ReadAura uses browser storage to remember your library, theme, voice preferences, and account session. If personal API-key settings are available and you add a key, it is stored in your browser and sent with AI requests to authenticate them. Hosting and API services receive technical information, such as your IP address and request details, to deliver the service and limit abuse.
Simple visitor counts
We store a random visitor identifier in your browser to estimate visits to the homepage and library. At most once per page per day, we send that identifier and the page category to our server. We keep a hashed version with the visit date and page category for up to 90 days; old records are removed during collection. These records contain no document names, content, account details, or stored IP addresses. Only the site owner can view aggregate counts. We skip collection when your browser signals Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. Clearing site data resets the browser identifier.
You control what you keep and send
You can remove documents and saved explanations from your library. Clearing ReadAura’s site data in your browser removes its local library and settings, so keep copies of anything you need. Clearing browser data or signing out does not delete server-side account records, synced files, shared content, or copies other members have already saved. Use local reading without read-aloud, AI, sync, or sharing when you want document content to stay on your device.
